1 Day Down 1 To Go

We’ve had the first day of the competition from Student Robotics! We’ve had a really interesting day where the robot would work, wouldn’t work, then would change and run code we didn’t even knew exist! But in the end we ended up 8th in the league table! you can view all of the latest results here: https://www.studentrobotics.org/league

The matches are all run in schedule, today we faced many teams and saw all types of robots! Some did really good and others looked really good! We found that a lot of teams were getting stressed today and shouting at each other and everything went tits up, but we all kept a cool and all kept friends throughout the day! You can view the match schedule here: https://www.studentrobotics.org/schedule

Also today the competition was been live streamed that fami...

Just A Little Update

Welcome to the latest back, were all got back safely from the tech day and now the work begins!
The team has now all come together and the Tech Day was very useful, we all now see the robot in final design, everything is coming together and as some people may seem this to be a late stage for this to happen, we WILL get this robot working and we will be working on this hard up until the final. A lot of testing will be required. The Tech Day also allowed for us to clear up the robot a little bit as well, therefore all of the wires are now neatly connected!

I would also just like to say this before the final, I am very proud of my team and the work they have put in, the robot is finally coming together and everyone is coming together with the same vision.
I would like to also thank the teac...

Tech Day 3

We are down in Southampton for our final tech day to work on the robot. Jake and Sean are working on the lifting mechanism which will be mounted on the robot. So far we have got some simple code and have pieced together a H-Bridge which will allow us to work the motors. Ash and Ben have been working on making the robot less evil by covering up its spikes and drilling in to it until it complies, they also sorted out the cabling and boards so it can act like a sophisticated, posh robot. Calum has been writing code to handle placing tokens on the pedestal, as well as general movement of the robot.

Sorry For The Lack Of Posting

This is post is to basically apologise for the lack of posts and updates through this past month, we’ve been having a few problems with adding pictures to the posts and to the website, ash thought it was something to do with wordpress but it turns out it was the theme we are using (DERP), but yeah apart from that we have been making great process in the building of the final robot. We have a basic frame to take down to the tech day, FRIDAY WOOO.

So now everything seems to be going smooth, expect more updates and to be kept updated!

We Would Like To Thank The Mirfield Rotary Club

So after we’ve been having many complications with the website, Ash managed to figure out the problem and changed the theme and everything works fine now!

A few week ago we received a donation from the Rotary Club! They have donated a very generous £50 toward the team and this will help us purchase parts for the robot!

The whole team thank the Rotary Club for their donation and will put the money to good use!

Go and check out their website at www.mirfieldrotaryclub.org.uk

Choosing A Random Path…

So today we’ve been working on some more coding of the robot, and we have now coded it so that when the robot doesn’t see a token it will choose a random movement to perform and it will then stop to search for more tokens.

The pictures for this is:

Slight Problem With Pictures

Just a quick blog post to inform you guys about the lack of pictures in the blog post, this is because we have upgraded to the newer version of wordpress (3.5) and this has some nasty bugs and one of them is where it disables the “Add Media” button, which is the only way of getting images on these things! So we have looked up how to resolve the problem and it says we need to contact the host, so we apologize for no images, but check out our social networking sites for more images and videos!

Just found out that links don’t work either! This is getting really bad! :(

Basic Vision

So yeah earlier i talked about vision, and WE GOT IT
Was trying the more complex things that i had worked on earlier and was struggling on something and couldn’t source the problem, so in a separate project i started with the more basic coding which would just tell the robot that

“I can see, (No Of Markers) markers:”

Then i moved on to the more complex coding so that it would actually read which token it was and print it out, this was done so that we knew it was reading the correct token, it would print:

“I can see a Marker Token!”

“I can see a Pedestal Token!”

“I can see a Arena Token!”

“I can see a Robot Token!”

Sorry for this post been so late, for some reason wordpress has been a bit weird recently and now it wont let me upload images! This was supposed to be posted on the 19th of D...

We Have Movement!

Hey its been a while since the last post and we’ve all been busy creating codes and brainstorming ideas for the actual robot! We have posted 4, yes 4!

This is just the begging and us playing around with some simple movement code, the next challenge will be the vision code and to get that working, this will then allow the robot to see the tokens! Was a real motivator seeing the Robot move today and making it do different things, can’t wait for the vision to work!

More videos to come real soon!
